January 17, 2007 marked a historic day in the USA/Toronto region. After months of preparation, this day marked the formal joining of the Brothers in Toronto to the New York District. A Mass of Thanksgiving preceded the Closing Ceremony and dinner, which was attended by the regional and international community. Among those present were LI-NE's Brothers William Mann (Vicar General) and Edmond Precourt (Visitor). The Brothers have been in Toronto for 155 years and they will continue to live and work there. Over the past decade, they have been faithful to maintaining and enhancing the Lasallian mission at De La Salle College "Oaklands" (Brothers community there is pictured above) and to finding new opportunities to extend their mission. The Institute is grateful to the New York District for stepping forward to assist these 24 Brothers in the spirit of Brothers helping Brothers. At the same time, the New York District goes forward fortified by the presence of these new faith-filled members. Together with their Lasallian colleagues, we are confident that together they will strengthen and enhance the Lasallian education mission.
