Wednesday, April 30 was a day of closure for the faculty and staff at La Salle Academy in Providence, RI. a special prayer service and tree planting was held to honor the memory of Carole McNamara, a former faculty member who suffered from ALS and passed away last fall. After a prayer service involving the entire Lasallian community (including retired faculty members and present students), a weeping beech tree was planted in her memory. The type of tree planted was selected because as it matures and its branches "weep" to the ground, the blossoms from the branches touching the ground will take root and other trees will begin to grow offering us new life for many, many years.
This ceremony was one of the final events planned by the school's Spiritual Life Committee. The committee's theme for the year centered around "service to others". During Carolee's five-year battle with Lou Gehrig's disease, faculty members prepared meals for the McNamara's three times a week bringing the school theme full circle.
