On March 13, Bro. Robert Shieler, President of the Regional Conference of Christian Brothers, announced that Bro. Lawrence Humphrey will succeed Bro. Thomas Johnson as Regional Coordinator for the USA/Toronto Region, effective August 1, 2007. Bro. Lawrence was the unanimous choice of the Visitors and Bro. Alvaro Rodriguez, Superior General, has approved his three-year appointment. The work of the Regional Coordinator? He "fosters communication among the Brother Visitors of the Region and supports them in their mission ... ensures that the Region remains in contact with the Superior General ... follows up on the applications and decisions adopted for the Region ... encourages cooperation and interdependence with the Region and between it and other Regions of the Institute. He has specific responsibilities for the Sangre de Cristo Center, the regional houses of formation and Bethlehem University." In accepting the position, Bro. Lawrence has stated, "This is an exciting time to be involved in the expanding network of Lasallian education in the Region and throughout the Institute. I look forward to working with men and women of faith and zeal across North America, supporting them, and through the works of Christian Brothers Conference, in our ministry to young people." Bro. Lawrence' s career has been on behalf of young people, while serving at Bishop Kelley HS, OK; O'Hara HS, MO; and Christian Brothers HS, TN, prior to his current work as President of Christian Brothers College HS in St. Louis (the picture above is of that high school's 2006-2007 Mid-States Hockey Championship team). Bro. Thomas Johnson returns to his Midwest District as Auxiliary Visitor. For over five years, he has served competently and enthusiastically with leadership and wisdom. He has been a vital and dynamic representative of this Region throughout the Institute. Thank you, Bro. Thomas; and Best wishes, Bro. Lawrence.
