OUR MISSION
"The Martin de Porres Group Homes was established by the de La Salle Christian Brothers to conduct group homes for youngsters according to the philosophy of St. John Baptist de La Salle, founder, and St. Martin de Porres, patron. These youngsters are in need of a stable home environment and, for a variety of reasons, are unable to live in their own homes. The mission of the organization is to conduct stable living environments and programs characterized by caring and security, enabling a youngster to reach his full potential. The programs are inspired by Christian values, but sensitive to other religious and cultural traditions. The ultimate goal of the program is to assist youths in adjusting to their families and society so that the risk of committing a juvenile or criminal offense is minimized."
The agency was initially established in December 1974 to meet the residential needs of students of the Martin de Porres School, but broadened its intake policy to include dependent, neglected and delinquent youth from a variety of referral sources. Today, the program exclusively serves adjudicated young men from the NY City Family Courts. Martin de Porres Group Homes is a member of the Child Welfare League of American and is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Children and Family Services since 2005.
